Dugan & Meyers is currently constructing a wastewater plant improvements project for the City of Connersville in southeast Indiana. The 31-month project will increase the plant’s capacity to 21.6 MGD and provide the plant with a 1-million-gallon EQ basin for temporarily storing wet weather flows.
The project improvements include the construction of a new Headworks building, a new Equalization Basin, a 1750 kW Stand-by Power System, a SCADA system, various process mechanical improvements, and significant dewatering.
The project includes D&M coworkers installing 4,200 LF of buried piping ranging up to 84” in size and 22’ in depth, 14,000 CY of excavation, over 5,100 CY of concrete, perimeter foundation walls up to 2’-8” thick and 35’ tall with single lift placements, six mass concrete wall pours averaging 135CY/pour, and 389 tons of rebar.
Considering the project’s proximity to the Whitewater River, a neighboring 10-acre lake, and a previous EPA-regulated landfill, the project’s dewatering has been the most challenging aspect of the project.
