There are many ways a student can learn about the construction process and the responsibilities of professional constructors by working for Dugan & Meyers. Our managers have worked with Interns/co-ops and new graduates for many years and have a solid understanding of the needs and expectations of students at all levels.
Intern/Co-op Assignments at Dugan & Meyers typically fall into one of the following categories:
Estimating: Perform quantity take-offs for the estimating process. Call subcontractors; assist with management of subcontractor database. Participate in the procurement and submission of bids.
Project Engineer: Shadow Project Engineer and assist with RFI’s, submittals, and other contract documentation. Become familiar with project plans and specifications. Project scheduling.
Superintendent: Work with the Project Superintendent in planning daily activities of the workforce, procurement of materials, and monitoring quantity and quality of work. Conduct time studies of workforce productivity.
Field Engineer: Assist Field Engineer with lines and grades for construction layout (footings, columns, slab-on-grades). Interpret blueprints and provide layout in absence of head engineer. Set up transit, laser level and automatic level.
By the time our interns/co-ops graduate, they have had the opportunity to be exposed to several different facets of the construction field.
